In years with heavy spring snowfall, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area stays open until May or June. The Eastern Sierra spring offers one of the most spectacular settings for landscape and nature photography anywhere. The meadows and hill sides surrounding the area come alive with a kaleidoscope of wildflowers. Spring in Eastern Sierra offers some of the best wildflower viewing and birding opportunities in the Western U.S.

Alpine Skiing/Snowboarding

Mammoth is known as one of the world's best resorts for spring skiing, sometimes staying open until July 4th. By late April the ski area is less expensive, uncrowded, and provides for a perfect day of mid-morning skiing followed by a round of golf, fishing session or biking. Much of Mammoth Mountain's 3,500 acres of skiable groommed and ungroomed trails through a spectacular wildnerness area are open during the spring.

Road bikers have plenty of asphalt routes to choose from, be it peddling around town, gearing down to puff up Minaret Road to the Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge or cruise the scenic stretches of U.S. Highway 395. As the spring melt opens up the trails, its time to test your suspension on the Inyo National Forest's vast network of trails and unpaved roads.
