In the summer, Mammoth Lakes area weather is delightful with daytime highs in the 70s and 80s and nighttime lows in the 40s and 50s from June to September. Summer is a magical time in the mountains as visitors enjoy hiking, biking, climbing, bird watching, boating, fishing, golf, and horseback riding amid the spectacular beauty of this area.

Backpacking
You can backpack from Mammoth to just about anywhere in the Sierras you could possibly want to go. Discover the natural beauty of Yosemite National Park, John Muir and Ansel Adams wilderness areas. Enjoy lush alpine meadows, jagged granite skylines, and clear high country lakes. Permits are required. Pick one up at the Forest Service station in Mammoth Lakes.

Bodie State Historic Park
Here you'll see what's left of Bodie. An original ghost town from the late 1800's, Bodie stands today in a state of "arrested decay". So coined by the State of California when they took over the town in 1962 to make it a State Historic Park.

There are over 800 campsites are available in the Mammoth Lakes area. Located in California's beautiful Eastern Sierra, the Inyo National Forest offers campers clean air, crystal blue skies, mountain lakes and streams, challenging trails, high mountain peaks, and beautiful views.

Devils Postpile
National Monument
Established in 1911 by presidential proclamation, Devils Postpile National Monument protects and preserves the Devils Postpile formation, the 101-foot high Rainbow Falls, and pristine mountain scenery. Devils Postpile is a rare sight in the geologic world and ranks as one of the world’s finest examples of columnar basalt. Its columns tower 60 feet high and display an unusual symmetry.

Golf
At 8,000 feet above sea level, Sierra Star Golf Course is the highest golf course in California. Sierra Star has snow-capped peaks in every direction, winding mountain streams, lush wildflowers, and fairways lined with Jeffrey pines. Snowcreek Resort Golf Course is nestled between the Sherwin Mountain Range and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. You can only imagine the beautiful 360-degree vistas enjoyed from every hole on our course. Hiking
In the summer, the Mammoth area provides easy access for day hikers to interesting geological formations and spectacular Sierra scenery. Notice the hawks swooping, the grouse scuttling, the way the aroma of sage is released when you lightly brush against it. There are a LOT of places to day hike and walk in the Mammoth area. Horseback Riding
Another great way to see Mammoth's scenic landscape is by horseback. Kayaking & Canoeing
Paddling in the Eastern Sierras is a very special experience. There is kayaking on high alpine lakes like Rock Creek Lake, on environmentally sensitive lakes like Mono Lake and Lake Tenaya in Yosemite National Park. Road bikers have plenty of asphalt routes to choose from, be it peddling around town, gearing down to puff up Minaret Road to the Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge and on up to the breathtaking Minaret Vista, or cruising the scenic stretches of U.S. Highway 395. During the summer Mammoth Mountain offers some of the world's best mountain biking. Whether you're looking for a scenic two-wheeled stroll or want to break the land speed record while catching some air along the way the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park has a trail or two just for you. You can also test your suspension on the Inyo National Forest's vast network of trails and unpaved roads.
