The typical winter temperatures in Mammoth are highs in the 30s-40s and overnight lows hovering around 20 degrees. We average over 300 sunny days a year and an average of 385 inches of snow we are often are skiing until July 4th. Mammoth Mountain is one of the top ranking ski and snowbarding resorts. Along with skiing and snowboarding on Mammoth Mountain, the Mammoth Lakes area has some of the best snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding in the U.S . Mammmoth Lakes offers two excellent ski resorts. Mammoth Mountain has over 3,500 acres of skiable groomed and ungroomed trails through a spectacular wilderness area. An average of over 385 inches of snow is caused by weather patterns from the Pacific that form over the Sierra. Mammoth is known as one of the world's best resorts for spring skiing, sometimes staying open until July 4th. June Mountain has over 500 acres of runs and a vertical rise of 2,590 feet . June is known for its unparalleled views along long tree-lined runs of gentle pitch, as well as challenging chutes and steeps for the experts, and a frequent abundance of powder snow.

Mammoth Lakes Ice Rink is a beautiful outdoor facility in an alpine setting. Offering public skating sessions, pick-up hockey, lessons and special events. Skate sharpening and skate rentals are available, including limited snack and beverage services.

Nordic Skiing/ Snowshoeing
Nordic skiing is a great way to be in the outdoors. Whether getting your morning workout or just walking the dog, the silence of the woods and the crisp mountain air are rejuvenating and inspiring. Between the Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center and the public Mammoth Lakes Nordic Trail System, there are miles of trails and skating lanes for Nordic skiers. From Tamarack Lodge you will experience 19 miles of freshly groomed track that meanders around Twin Lakes and the Mammoth Lakes Basin.

Snowmobiling
Mount a sled and venture into beautiful meadows and wooded forests with the wind in your face and your hands on the throttle. Miles of snow-covered roads and 75,000 acres of open expanse are waiting to be explored. Many of Mammoth's geologic wonders, such as Hot Creek Geological Site and Inyo Craters, are easily accessed in winter months by snowmobile.

Snowplay & Sledding
The Inyo National Forest is open to snow play and is ideal for sleds, tubes and saucers. Some areas to sled at are:
1)Rock Creek Road, approx. 15 minutes south of Mammoth Lakes and is plowed all the way to East Fork Snopark
2)A large hill approximately 15 minutes north of Mammoth Lakes on Hwy 395 on the southbound side where the divided highway ends, just before Deadman Summit.
3)Anywhere on the Scenic Loop Road as long as you are not parked on or sledding on the road.
4)Sledz, is located on Minaret Road, on your way up to the Main Lodge ski area on the right side. There is a rope tow and they provide the tubes for $25.00 per person, per hour. Cash Only! (760)934.7533
